FAQ

What 33 countries are you planning to visit?

Woody Allen is quoted as having said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” Needless to say, God loves tuning into the comedy show known as planning an RTW. How long will you be traveling?

8 months or until the money runs out, whichever is first!

How much does it cost?

This is budget traveling (e.g. hostels, bed & breakfasts, trains, mopeds (hee hee), and the majority of my time spent in locations were the US$ goes further.) It will be much easier to tell you exactly what I spent when I am finished, but as of now my budget is around 20K, not including pre-planning expenses (e.g. visas, shots, gear, etc.)

What are some of the resources you used or are using to plan your trip?

Air brokers like Air Treks and Air Brokers International are fantastic for planning transcontinental flights. Lonely Planet’s Thorn Tree Forum is a great place to ask questions to people who have done or are doing this type of long term traveling. Also, I referenced quite a few other travel stories and blogs from Urban Travel Girl and the Gobackpacking Blog iphone App. The app, in particular, became my light reading at night and I loved the “Cost of a trip around the world” article.

Last, but not least, my local library card was the best investment I could have ever made. Every single country guide I thought about purchasing, I checked out of the library first. Also, Elaine Lee’s Go Girl:  The Black Woman's Guide to Travel and Adventure was my go to book for inspiration.

As more questions arise, I will add to this list. If you are wondering about any aspect of my trip, then please feel free to ask.
